West of it you are on Edwards limestone that shows up shallow and does not negotiate, with cedar in the draws and live oaks worth keeping. East of it the ground turns to deep blackland clay that digs easily and moves with the weather, where shrink swell decides your building pad and a wet week decides your schedule. Keep going east past Bastrop and Elgin and the clay gives way again to Post Oak Savannah sand, where yaupon fills the understory and eastern redcedar takes the pasture if nobody stops it.
One crew covers all three because they are twenty minutes apart. That means the machine matches the ground rather than whatever was on the trailer: skid steer mulchers for tight lots and selective work around keep trees, high horsepower dedicated mulchers for solid cedar and heavy yaupon, and dozer and excavator work where a pad, a tank or a ranch road is the actual job.

Transparent day rates across the region: $3,000 per day for the skid steer mulcher with transport included, or $4,000 per day plus transport for the high horsepower dedicated mulcher. Material over 8 inches always gets the dedicated machine. Because the yard is in South Austin, transport on this corridor is a short hop and the number you get is the number you pay. Solid cedar on limestone and heavy yaupon on the sand both run at the slower end of a machine pace, scattered brush at the faster end, and selective work around keep trees prices differently than a full clear.
