Round Rock sits right on the Balcones Escarpment, the line where the Texas Hill Country meets the Blackland Prairie. That line decides what kind of clearing your property needs. West of I-35, toward Cedar Park and Leander, lots get rocky and limestone-heavy, covered in Ashe juniper (mountain cedar) and live oak. Out there we run mulching heads and rock milling, because the wrong equipment tears up shallow soil. East of I-35, toward Hutto and Taylor, the ground turns to deep Blackland clay, with mesquite and brush filling the creek bottoms along Brushy Creek and the San Gabriel forks. That side is grubbing and brush cutter work.
Cedar is the common problem all over Williamson County. It spreads fast, drinks up the water table, chokes out grass, and piles up wildfire fuel. Our high horsepower dedicated mulchers run 300+ HP and chew through heavy cedar and mesquite at a pace no skid steer can match. That is how big tracts get cleared in days instead of weeks. We bring these machines when your material runs bigger than 8 inches in diameter and the property has access for an 11 foot wide machine.
For material up to 8 inches in diameter, our skid steer mulchers fill the gap. Subdivision lots, tree preservation, tight fence lines, and finish work around structures, they get in where the big machines cannot. Low ground pressure protects your topsoil, and they clear selectively around the oaks you want to keep.

Most private vegetation clearing in Round Rock needs no permit at all. There are exceptions worth knowing. The city has tree protection rules that can apply to larger heritage trees, floodplain rules come into play near Brushy Creek and the San Gabriel forks, and if you are clearing ahead of construction, your site prep can fall under city or county development requirements. We flag anything that needs checking during the walk-through, before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
Estimates usually happen within a few days of your call. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site, and larger acreage moves at several acres a day with the dedicated mulchers. One local quirk: the Blackland clay east of I-35 gets greasy after rain, so we watch the weather and schedule around it rather than tearing up your ground. With mulching, nothing needs to leave your property. Everything grinds into a mulch layer that protects the soil, holds moisture, and feeds the grass as it breaks down. There are no brush piles to burn and no haul off trucks to pay for, which is a big part of why mulching costs less than traditional clearing.
It depends on the machine and the growth. In typical Central Texas cedar and brush, our high horsepower dedicated mulchers clear several acres a day, and the skid steer mulchers cover roughly an acre or two on lighter growth. Heavy timber and rocky slopes slow things down, which is why we quote the whole job instead of guessing.
Yes, and it matters here. Oak wilt is active across Central Texas, so we focus on removing cedar and brush while leaving healthy oaks untouched, avoid cutting live oaks during the high risk season when possible, and keep equipment clean between properties. If oak trimming is part of the job, cuts get sealed right away.
Usually not. HOAs around Round Rock mostly care about work hours, debris, and street protection. We run standard daytime hours, keep the site clean, and our low ground pressure machines are easy on driveways and curbs. If your HOA needs proof of insurance, we provide it.
