Clearing Land in Austin, From Canyon Country to the Blackland

West of MoPac, Austin is canyon country. The lots out Bee Cave Road, off Ranch Road 2222, and around Lake Travis sit on the edge of the Edwards Plateau: steep grades, shallow limestone, thick Ashe juniper, and live oaks worth keeping. Clearing here is careful work. We run selective passes around the oaks, and on the rockiest ground our rock milling turns loose limestone into usable base instead of a haul off problem.

Cross I-35 heading east and the land flattens into Blackland farm country around Del Valle, Hornsby Bend, and Manor: deep clay, mesquite, and brush stacking up along Onion, Walnut, and Williamson creeks. This is the side of town growing fastest, and much of our east side work ends as construction site prep for new homes and commercial builds. Two different Austins, two different jobs, one crew that knows both.

High Horsepower Dedicated Mulchers

Our high horsepower dedicated mulchers run 300+ HP and chew through heavy cedar and mesquite at a pace no skid steer can match. That is how big tracts get cleared in days instead of weeks. We bring these machines when your material runs bigger than 8 inches in diameter and the property has access for an 11 foot wide machine.

Land Clearing 6

Skid Steer Mulchers for Precision Work

For material up to 8 inches in diameter, our skid steer mulchers fill the gap. Subdivision lots, tree preservation, tight fence lines, and finish work around structures, they get in where the big machines cannot. Low ground pressure protects your topsoil, and they clear selectively around the oaks you want to keep.

What Customers Say About Working With Us

Rated 5 out of 5

I am a home builder in Baton Rouge Louisiana, but I am working on a pretty large project in Austin Texas. I have a lot of experience working alongside contractors in all trades. It is always most important to identify those that take pride in their work.

Top notch company, top notch equipment, most importantly top notch people! I have a landscape company in Austin that generates tons of brush and leaves. Bobby came out and made mince meat out of our mountains of brush!

We live on 12 acres off 1431. When we purchased our property we absolutely fell in love with the amazing views of the Hill Country but were strapped with inheriting tons of cedars, a few pitiful oaks, and lots of debris.

Permits in Austin

Ordinary brush and cedar clearing on private property usually needs no permit in Austin. Trees are a different story. Inside the city limits, removing larger protected trees generally requires a city permit, and the biggest heritage oaks carry stricter rules still. Southwest Austin adds water quality zones over the Edwards Aquifer, and the creeks that thread the city, Onion, Walnut, Williamson, and Shoal among them, bring floodplain rules of their own. Out in unincorporated Travis County, requirements loosen considerably. We sort out exactly what applies to your property during the free walk through, before any work starts.

How Long Does It Take?

Estimates usually happen within a few days, and because our yard is in South Austin, we are often close by already. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site. Two scheduling notes worth knowing: if a protected tree permit is in play, city review adds lead time, so we flag that early. And when rain slicks up the east side clay, we shift the start rather than rut your ground. You get a start window with your quote and a heads up before we roll.

Austin Land Clearing Questions, Answered

It depends on which Austin you are in. A juniper choked canyon lot off Ranch Road 2222 clears very differently than flat Blackland acreage east of the airport. Our day rates are published: $3,000 for skid steer mulchers, $4,000 plus transport for the dedicated machines. Send photos and property details and we can usually quote a firm total fast. You can also get an instant ballpark with our land clearing cost calculator.

All the time, especially in the west Austin hills where Ashe juniper crowds the canyons. Clearing it opens views, cuts wildfire fuel, helps the water table, and come December, means a little less cedar fever in your immediate airshed. It all gets mulched right where it falls.

Yes. West Austin sits in active oak wilt territory, so we clear selectively around keeper oaks, avoid cutting live oaks during the high risk season when possible, keep equipment clean between properties, and seal any oak cuts right away.

Yes. Our skid steer mulchers fit through standard gates and work tight infill lots, greenbelt edges, and steep canyon driveways where the big machines cannot go. Low ground pressure keeps your soil and driveway intact.

We do. Southwest Austin carries water quality zones with extra rules about clearing and impervious cover. We work within them and flag anything that needs a closer look during the estimate, so you do not find out about a rule after the fact.

Yes, and west Austin neighborhoods along the wildland urban interface should. Thinning cedar and ladder fuels around structures is one of the most effective fire mitigation moves a property owner can make, and mulching does it without bare scraped earth.

With mulching, nothing needs to leave your property. Everything grinds into a mulch layer that protects the soil, holds moisture, and feeds the grass as it breaks down. There are no brush piles to burn and no haul off trucks to pay for, which is a big part of why mulching costs less than traditional clearing.
