You did not bid the job to spend three weeks of your own iron grinding cedar. We take the clearing and grubbing line off your schedule, work to a written scope inside your programme, and hand back ground your crews can start on. Ten machines on 1,200 acres is the largest we have run.
A dozer grinding brush is a dozer not moving dirt. On most civil jobs the clearing line is a few percent of the contract and a disproportionate share of the schedule risk, because it is the part with the least predictable production rate. Handing it to somebody who does only that is usually the cheaper arithmetic even when the line item looks higher.
We run purpose built mulchers rather than a dozer with an attachment, and the difference on standing timber is not marginal. A day of a dedicated high horsepower machine covers about three acres of mixed growth. That predictability is what lets you put a real date on the trades behind you.
Clearing, grubbing and excavation are three machines doing three jobs and we quote them separately. On a civil job that matters because it is how you value engineer later, and because a lump sum that hides the split is a lump sum that becomes an argument at the first change order.
You hold the client, the programme and the paperwork. We work inside it, produce the certificates and safety documentation before mobilization, and do not talk to your client about scope. That sounds obvious and it is not universal.
