Dileo Solar outside Clifton brought us in as the mulching specialist. Excavator crews handled the grubbing and left the cleared material in windrows, and our Barko 930B mulchers worked those piles down to the fine spec solar construction demands, 177 acres in 32 days. It is the other half of the coin from our Big Sky Solar project in Rosanky, where we ran both scopes ourselves: on Dileo we slotted into a bigger operation alongside other contractors and kept our lane moving, safely and on schedule.

Windrow mulching is its own discipline. A pile is denser than standing brush, mixed with root wads and dirt from the grubbing, and the spec does not care where the material came from: the finished mulch has to run fine and uniform whether it started as a standing cedar or a compacted windrow. We ran multiple Barko 930Bs across the rows, sectioning the site and verifying the finish zone by zone, the same discipline we bring to every solar job.
The other half of this job was coordination. Dileo was an active site with grubbing excavators, haul traffic, and other trades working the same ground at the same time. Averaging roughly five and a half acres a day for 32 straight days only happens when every crew knows where the others are, and we wrapped with no incidents and nobody waiting on us.

Why mulch the piles instead of burning or hauling them off?
Burning needs permits, weather windows, and standing supervision, and it is often off the table entirely on an energy site. Hauling means paying to truck material you already paid to clear. Mulching converts the piles into a fine ground cover that meets the solar spec, stays on site, and helps with erosion control, with no burn risk and no debris convoys crossing a lease.
How fast can you mulch at production scale?
Dileo ran 177 acres of windrow mulching in 32 days, roughly five and a half acres a day, sustained. Mulching-only scopes run faster than dual scope clearing because the below grade work is already done. The date we commit to is production math built from the actual material and spec, not optimism, and this project held its window.
