A mile of new fence needs a mile of clear ground

A customer with a new ranch needed a fence built along a boundary that ran a mile through brush. Before a fence crew can set a post, somebody has to cut them a lane wide enough to work in, straight enough to build on, and clean enough that the posts go where the survey says.

Twelve feet is the number we were given. A mile at twelve feet works out to a shade under an acre and a half.

One day of cutting with the Barko

With a machine this size the row itself went quickly. The Barko 930B cut the full mile in a day, start to finish. A mile of clean row in a single day is what a machine this size buys you on a run like this.

Staying on the line with nothing to look at

This was a GPS job. There were no flags, no paint and no stakes on the ground, so the only thing keeping the row on the boundary was the machine following a line on a screen. Wander a few feet over a mile and the fence crew inherits your mistake, either building crooked or waiting while somebody comes back to fix it.

Cutting straight is most of the skill in right of way work. Anybody can knock brush down. Knocking it down exactly where the survey says is the part worth paying for.
