SERVING STONEWALL & THE PEDERNALES VALLEY, TX

Stonewall Land Clearing & Cedar Removal

We clear cedar, brush and storm killed timber on acreage between Fredericksburg and Johnson City, along the Pedernales and back up the creeks that feed it. Gillespie County ground is limestone close to the surface with live oak and ashe juniper on top of it, and that combination sets how every job out here gets run.

The Land Around Stonewall

Land clearing in Stonewall, Texas is cedar work, storm work and brush work on thin soil over limestone. Pierce Land Clearing runs forestry mulching, cedar and ashe juniper removal, brush and underbrush clearing, pasture reclamation and tree and stump removal on acreage across Gillespie County, and since the 2023 ice storm a large part of that has been taking out dead live oak without damaging the trees that came through it.

We cover Stonewall and the country around it: Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Hye, Albert, Blanco, Round Mountain and Llano, along the 290 corridor and back up the Williams Creek and Grape Creek drainages. Peach orchards, vineyards, working ranches and hill country acreage all get cleared differently, and the machine we bring depends on which one you have and how tight the access is.

Pricing comes off published day rates: $4,000 a day plus transport for the high horsepower dedicated mulcher, $3,000 a day with transport included for the skid steer mulcher, and $3,000 a day plus transport for dozer or excavator work, with a one day minimum. Send photos and acreage for a real number, or call 512-400-2693 and we will come walk it with you.

Forestry Mulching 13

High Horsepower Dedicated Mulchers

Our high horsepower dedicated mulchers run 300+ HP and chew through heavy cedar and mesquite at a pace no skid steer can match. That is how big tracts get cleared in days instead of weeks. We bring these machines when your material runs bigger than 8 inches in diameter and the property has access for an 11 foot wide machine.

Land Clearing 6

Skid Steer Mulchers for Precision Work

For material up to 8 inches in diameter, our skid steer mulchers fill the gap. Subdivision lots, tree preservation, tight fence lines, and finish work around structures, they get in where the big machines cannot. Low ground pressure protects your topsoil, and they clear selectively around the oaks you want to keep.

Excellent work. Our property was complex as we wanted to save some trees, and the operator was amazing at maneuvering around them to clear the 7 acres we cleared.

Permits and Rules Around Stonewall

Stonewall is unincorporated, so there is no city tree ordinance to work around and most acreage clearing here is between you and the county. Land in agricultural valuation has its own considerations worth checking before a large clearing. Anything close to the Pedernales or a feeder creek can touch floodplain rules. We flag exactly what applies to your tract when we come out and quote it.

How Long Does It Take?

Estimates usually happen within a few days of your call. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site, and larger acreage moves at several acres a day with the dedicated mulchers. One local quirk: the blackland clay here gets greasy after rain, so we watch the forecast and schedule around it rather than tearing up your ground. You get a start window with your quote and a heads up before we roll in.

Stonewall Land Clearing Questions

Published day rates: $4,000 a day plus transport for the high horsepower dedicated mulcher, $3,000 a day with transport included for the skid steer mulcher, and $3,000 a day plus transport for dozer or excavator work. One day minimum. On open Gillespie County ground the dedicated machine covers two to three acres a day. Thick cedar takes longer. Send photos and acreage and we will give you a real number off those rates.

It gets mulched in place and left on the ground as a chip layer. Nothing is hauled off and nothing is burned, so there is no pile sitting on your place afterwards. On thin limestone soil that chip layer is worth having, because it holds moisture on ground that does not hold much on its own.

Yes, and around here that is usually the job. We work to a rule you set on the ground, most often that the ashe juniper goes and the live oak and any hardwood over a set diameter stays. The operator works around the keepers rather than through them. It is slower than a clear cut and it is worth it.

Yes. Dead standing live oak is most of what we have been called for in this county since the storm. Anything the mulching head can take goes off the stump. Larger dead stems, and we have taken them up to thirty inches through near Stonewall, come down first and get worked from the ground. The healthy oaks stay where they are.

On open ground with scattered cedar the dedicated mulcher runs two to three acres a day, so four or five acres is usually a two day job. Heavy solid cedar is slower. The four acre job we ran outside Stonewall in August 2026 was one day, but that was storm work on ground that was otherwise reasonably clean, not a wall of juniper.

Yes, and it is the fastest way to get a real number. Send photos from a few directions, tell us the acreage and roughly where the property is, and we will price it off our published day rates. If it is a job where the ground needs walking first we will tell you that instead of guessing.

Not from the stump. Ashe juniper does not resprout once it is cut below the lowest green limb, which is the single most useful thing to know about clearing in this county. What does come back is seedlings out of the seed already in the soil and whatever the birds bring in. Mulching sets the ground back years, and keeping on top of the young growth after that is far cheaper than clearing it twice.

It can. Ground close to the river or a feeder creek may sit in floodplain, and river bottom soil is soft enough after rain that we would rather wait a few days than cut ruts across it. We look at that when we walk the property and tell you plainly what applies to your tract before anything starts.
