La Grange, TX 2 Acre Cedar and Brush Clearing for a Trailer and Container Yard

Proudly serving La Grange, Texas

A new property outside La Grange, two acres of it under cedar and brush so thick you could not see across it, and an owner who needed somewhere to park trailers and shipping containers. One day with the Weiler M860A took the cedar and the brush to a flat mulched floor and left the big hardwoods around the edge standing. This page shows the ground before and after, and what the day cost.

A new property with nowhere to park

The owner had just bought the place and had equipment coming: trailers and shipping containers that needed level ground and room to swing a truck. What the property offered instead was two acres of cedar and brush grown up into a solid wall, with a few dead trees leaning in it. The before photos show the machine nosed into the edge of it on the first morning, and the thicket it had to work through.

This is a common first job on a new Fayette County property. The ground is fine underneath. It is the growth on top that makes the land unusable, and a mulcher removes it in a day without leaving the owner a pile to burn or haul.

Cedar and brush out, hardwoods kept

The instruction was simple: take the cedar and the brush, keep the big trees. The M860A ran the thicket down to ground level and ground the stems, limbs and leaners into a mulch layer in the same pass. Around the edge of the lot the mature hardwoods stayed, which is what gives the after photos their shape: a clean open floor with a tree line still around it for shade and screening.

On a two acre lot the high horsepower machine is not overkill. A skid steer mulcher would have taken two to three days on cedar this dense. The M860A did it in one, so the owner paid for one machine day rather than three, and the transport charge only once.

What a mulched lot is good for, and what it is not

The lot the owner got back is a flat surface of ground cedar and brush over the native soil. It packs down under tires within a few weeks, it stops the brush coming back for a season or two, and you can drive trailers across it and drop containers on it. What it is not is an engineered pad. A loaded container on soft ground after a wet spell will settle, so if a container is going to sit in one place for years the right move is a gravel pad under it, which is dirt work rather than mulching. The mulched lot is the first step; the pad is a separate, smaller job, and the La Grange excavation page covers what that costs.

What it cost

The job ran $5,000 to $6,000: one day of the high horsepower mulcher at the published $4,000 a day, plus transport to La Grange. That is the same rate every page on this site quotes for the M860A and the Tigercat, and it is why we can price a lot like this from a photo and an acreage before anyone drives out. The cost guide has the per acre numbers from the rest of our documented jobs, and the La Grange land clearing page has what to expect on Fayette County ground.

Could this have been done with a skid steer

Yes, and on a lighter lot it would be the cheaper choice at $3,000 a day with transport included. Cedar this dense over two acres is where the math flips. Two or three skid steer days cost more than one day of the big machine, and the big machine leaves a finer mulch behind because it grinds rather than beats the material down. When we quote a lot we tell you which machine the acreage and the growth call for, and why.
