The Land Around Cool

Out toward Mineral Wells, Parker County stops being a Fort Worth commute and starts being ranch country. Bigger tracts, rougher ground, and cedar that is worse for both reasons: solid brakes on the hills, juniper marching out of every draw, mesquite holding the flats.

Places out here often have not seen a machine in a generation, which sounds like a bigger job than it usually is. A mulching head moves fast through cedar once it starts, and thirty year old juniper grinds no slower than ten year old juniper. What actually costs money is rock and getting to the back of the property. So the honest sequence is mulching for the cedar, grubbing only where mesquite has to stop coming back, and ranch road work if the two track out to the back is the thing stopping the job.

High Horsepower Dedicated Mulchers

Our high horsepower dedicated mulchers run 300+ HP and chew through heavy cedar and mesquite at a pace no skid steer can match. That is how big tracts get cleared in days instead of weeks. We bring these machines when your material runs bigger than 8 inches in diameter and the property has access for an 11 foot wide machine.

Land Clearing 6

Skid Steer Mulchers for Precision Work

For material up to 8 inches in diameter, our skid steer mulchers fill the gap. Subdivision lots, tree preservation, tight fence lines, and finish work around structures, they get in where the big machines cannot. Low ground pressure protects your topsoil, and they clear selectively around the oaks you want to keep.

What Land Clearing Costs in Cool

Every place is different, so the number comes down to acreage, how thick the cedar, post oak and mesquite has gotten, what you want left standing, and how the machines get through your gates. Transport to Parker County is built into the quote up front, so the number you are given is the number you pay.

Straight Day Rates, No Games

Permits in Cool

On rural Parker County land you own, clearing generally needs no permit and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas. If your place carries an agricultural valuation, call the appraisal district before changing land use.

How Long Does It Take?

Estimates usually happen within a few days of your call. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site, and larger acreage moves at several acres a day with the dedicated mulchers. One local quirk: post oak sand works wet a good deal better than clay does, so we lose fewer days to rain here than crews do east of the Trinity. You get a start window with your quote and a heads up before we roll in.

Cool Land Clearing FAQs

Priced by the machine day. A high horsepower mulcher is $4,000 per day plus transport, a skid steer mulcher is $3,000 per day with transport included, and dozer or excavator work is $3,000 per day plus transport. One day minimum on every machine. Most homesite and fence line work around Cool is one or two days.

Not from the stump. Ashe juniper, what everybody here calls cedar, does not resprout once it is cut below the lowest green limb, which is why mulching works on it. What comes back is seedlings from the seed already in your soil and from whatever your neighbours have standing. Plan to walk it every few years and knock the new ones down while they are small.

Regularly. Cross Timbers ground goes from sandy loam to limestone shelf in the space of a few feet. A mulching head does not care, but grubbing and digging do, so rock changes the machine and the pace. That is why we walk a property before quoting rather than pricing off an aerial photo.

That is most of what we do here. The post oaks and live oaks are usually the reason somebody bought the place, and cedar is what is choking them. An operator running a mulching head can take juniper out from between oaks without touching the canopy you want kept. Mark anything you want protected before we start and it stays.

It does not affect a mulching job, and that is a real advantage on this ground. Mulching leaves a chip layer on the soil instead of a pile, so there is nothing to burn and nothing to haul off. Parker County sits under a ban a good part of the year, and stacking brush you cannot legally burn just moves the problem to next season.

There is no such thing on the mulching side. Solid cedar brake, cedar, post oak and mesquite, decades of no management, we have a machine for it. What changes with density is the pace, so heavy ground runs at the slower end of a machine day and open ground at the faster end. Acreage on its own will not tell you the number.

On rural land you own, generally no, and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas. Inside a city limit, clearing tied to a build runs through normal permitting. If your place carries an agricultural valuation, call the appraisal district before you change how the land is used.

Usually within a couple of weeks, sometimes faster if a job ahead of us finishes early. Send photos and acreage and we can normally put a real number on it the same day. Transport is quoted up front, so the figure you are given is the figure you pay.
