East Parker County: Sandy Loam, Clay Seams, and the Occasional Ledge

The horse country between Aledo and the Annettas rolls across Cross Timbers loam with clay underneath and limestone shoulders to the south. Which one your pond site sits on decides the plan, so we probe first.

THE GROUND

Loam Up Top, Answers Below

The sandy loam that makes this county perfect for horses passes water, so the basin has to reach the clay seams below it or bring clay to the bowl. Test holes on the walk tell us which, and the sealing plan goes in the quote as its own written line.

South and west of Aledo the ground shoulders into limestone, and there we read the cut for rock honestly at the walk. Most estate sites dig clean; the ones that will not get told the truth up front.

THE MARKET

Estate Ponds Done to Estate Standard

Aledo acreage is show ground: fenced, mowed, and looked at every day. A pond here has to be beautiful as well as functional, and that is a construction decision, not a landscaping one. Banks shaped for mowing, a dam that reads as lawn, water positioned where the house sees it.

We build the bones of that during the dig: clean grades, pinched weed shelves, dock and beach sites set in the plan, and spoil either feathered invisibly or built into a usable pad.

The Build, Step by Step

From the first photos to the first evening the pond earns its spot in front of the barn, the sequence is the same open book.

1

The call

The first step costs nothing: photos, a rough size, your location. We come back same day with a range from the published list, and the site walk gets scheduled only if that range makes sense to you.

2

The site walk

On an Aledo walk we probe for the clay, read the sight lines from the house as seriously as the drainage, and talk through bank grades, dock siting, and where the spoil disappears to. Estate ponds get planned like landscapes and engineered like dams, in that order and both fully.

3

The quote

We put the whole build on paper in machine days, dig, dam, and spillway, with rock or liner contingencies called out up front where you can see them. The number you sign is the number you pay.

4

Mobilization

Once the quote is signed we get you on the calendar, typically a few weeks out. The machines arrive together, stage near the site, and stay until the job is finished, no disappearing mid-build.

5

Build days

Count on two to five working days of iron time for a typical pond. Every build follows the same discipline: saved topsoil, a real core trench, a dam raised in compacted lifts, and slopes cut so they can be mowed, not just admired.

6

The walkthrough

Last step: a slow lap around the pond together. You check the dam, the spillway cut, the slope finish, and the dressed topsoil against the quote. We load the machines only when you are satisfied.

7

The wait for water

With thirty-two inches of rain and a fair watershed, most east Parker ponds stand full within their first wet season. The dam and banks get seeded immediately, which matters double on a property where the pond is meant to be looked at.

2026 Pond Price List

Published, not hidden behind a form. Prices and build times are based on 6 feet of depth at center with a 4:1 bank.

Pond Size Starting Price at 6 ft depth, 4:1 bank Build Time
1/4 acre from $12,300 2 to 3 days
1/2 acre from $19,200 3 to 4 days
3/4 acre from $23,300 4 to 5 days
1 acre from $27,000 5 to 6 days
1 1/4 acre from $30,400 6 to 7 days
1 1/2 acre from $33,800 7 to 8 days
1 3/4 acre from $36,800 8 to 9 days
2 acre from $39,500 9 to 10 days

Chart prices are for a 6 foot deep pond at 4:1 banks. Parker County loam can add tested sealing as a flagged line item, and any rock expectation is called at the site walk, not after.

Price Your Pond in Aledo

Size it, tell us what to do with the dirt, then draw the pond right on a photo of your land. Your estimate comes back by email, along with a preview of the finished water.

What You Are Paying For, Line by Line

The quote has two halves: what every build includes, and the site-specific items we flag before work starts.

INCLUDED IN EVERY BUILD

The Whole Pond

One price, one finished pond: siting matched to the water the land actually sheds, staking, saved topsoil, core trench, a dam packed up in lifts, a proper spillway, slopes you can mow, and banks dressed to grass. Machine transport and the walkthrough are never extras.

QUOTED SEPARATELY WHEN NEEDED

The Site Variables

Sealing in the loam is the tested, written line item. Rock near the limestone shoulders is read at the walk and priced in daylight if we expect it. Clearing and site prep ride on the same quote at published day rates, and spoil placement is part of the plan, not an afterthought.

Building Water in Horse Country

The pond is part of the property statement

Aledo sells on curb appeal measured in acres. A well shaped pond in front of the barn does more for a place than any fence upgrade: it reads from the road, photographs from the porch, and appraises like the improvement it is. Buyers in this school district pay for finished, and water is the finish.

Horse places need honest water

Beyond the looks, the horse operations along 1187 and Old Annetta Road still need real stock water: a tank that holds depth, banks that do not bog a horse, and water that stays sweet through August. We cut a firm approach slope on one bank and keep the rest steep against weeds.

Weatherford demand, Aledo address

Parker County pond demand shows up in our search data constantly, and the east side is where the acreage budget lives. We route through the county regularly, mobilization is easy off I-20, and the documented Liberty Hill builds on this page are the same loam-and-ledge problem set.

Depth still wins

Thirty-two inches of rain is enough to keep a well sited pond full, but evaporation out here takes its cut every summer. Past six feet quickly, shallows pinched, and the pond stays cool, clear, and worth looking at, which in Aledo is the whole point.

What a Pond Does for an Aledo Place

The view from the porch

A shaped pond with mowed banks is the improvement that changes how a property feels every single day, and it is the photo the listing leads with if the place ever sells.

Horse water that works

Real stock water with a firm approach keeps the barn routine simple and the vet bills lower, and it never depends on a hose left running.

A fishing hole in the school district

Stock it on schedule and within three seasons the kids are pulling bass out before dinner. Few backyards in Aledo can say that.

Appraisal and appeal

East Parker buyers pay for finished acreage. A correctly built pond appraises as the improvement it is and shows better than anything else the money could have bought.

More Than a Hole That Holds Water

Most clients add at least one of these. Planned during the build, they cost less and land better than bolting them on a year later.

FINISH

Seeding & Erosion Control

Seeding and erosion control finish every dam, and on estate ground we grade for the mower deck while we are at it: banks you can maintain like lawn instead of fighting like a ditch.

WATER QUALITY

Aeration & Fountains

Aeration is the estate standard: clear water, no summer stagnation, healthy fish, and a fountain option that turns the pond into the front-of-property feature it was built to be.

ACCESS

Docks

Docks and beaches get set in the grading plan, depth correct at the posts and sand where sand belongs, while the machines are on site and the work is cheap.

THE PAYOFF

Fish Stocking

Stocking runs forage first, bass a season later, and the depth map we hand over makes the hatchery visit painless. Three seasons to bragging rights.

From Our Clients

★★★★★

My experience was the best hands down. I liked the direct upfront pricing and how it was stated clearly what would be done. The operator Jonathan went above and beyond to take care of our property and listened to what was important to us.

James Lout, Google review

★★★★★

Jonathon came out and did a great job. Had 8 to 10 large piles of brush that he was able to mulch in a couple of hours. He walked the property with me so I could point out more areas I wanted cleaned up.

Freddy Huser, Google review

★★★★★

My wife and I bought 3 acres that we needed cedars cleared from. A good friend of mine recommended Pierce so I decided to give them a try. Taylor was communicative and responded quickly from the first call.

Words You Will Hear on the Site Walk

Dirt crews talk in shorthand. These are the six terms that matter most on a pond build.

Plastic clay

Clay you can roll into a ribbon in your hand. The soil that seals a pond, and the first thing we look for on the walk.

Stock tank

Texan for a working pond built to water cattle. Usually smaller, always practical, and built with the same dam discipline.

Core trench

A keyway cut below grade under the dam and packed with clay, so water cannot travel beneath the structure.

Compacted lifts

The dam built up in thin layers, each packed tight by the machine before the next goes on. The opposite of a pushed up pile.

Spillway

The armored low route storm water takes around the dam instead of over it. The difference between a rain event and a rebuild.

4:1 bank

Four feet of run for every foot of drop. Gentler banks are safer and easier to mow; steeper banks get more depth from less dirt.

Aledo Pond Construction FAQs

How much does a pond cost in Aledo, TX?

The published chart starts at $12,300 for a quarter acre at 6 feet on 4:1 banks, and the calculator above prices your own size and depth. Loam sites can add tested sealing as a written line item. Photos of the site get a real range the same day.

Will a pond hold water in sandy loam?

With the clay found or brought, yes. We probe on the walk: if the clay seam is in reach the cut uses it, and if not the basin gets a compacted core priced in writing. East Parker County has enough seepy disappointments; ours hold because the ground gets read first.

Can you make it look like an estate pond, not a stock tank?

That is a dig-time decision and we build for it: mowable bank grades, a dam that reads as lawn, weed shelves pinched, dock and beach locations set in the plan, and spoil feathered out of sight. The pretty pond costs the same dirt money as the plain one; it just takes intent.

What about horses and the water?

A firm approach slope on one bank keeps horses out of the bog, the rest of the banks stay steeper against weeds, and depth keeps the water sweet. Aeration is the add-on horse places choose most, and we plumb for it during the build.

Is there rock on the south side?

Sometimes. The limestone shoulders toward the Bear Creek country can put a ledge in a cut, and we read for it at the walk and price any hammer time in daylight. Most estate sites east of town dig clean.

Do I need a permit in Parker County?

On most acreage, no: normal farm and ranch ponds are exempt from state permitting and the county adds none. Sites in a mapped creek floodplain deserve a check first, and we flag it on the walk when it applies.

How deep should an Aledo pond be?

Chart pricing starts at 6 feet; for looks and fish both we recommend eight where the ground allows. Deeper water stays clearer, fights weeds, and carries fish through the summer, and the calculator shows exactly what it adds.

How long does the build take?

Two to five working days for most ponds, per the chart, plus a day or two if the site needs clearing. The documented fifth acre build on this page ran two days start to finish.
