Lake Whitney Country Ground

The limestone that makes the lake shoreline scenic runs under the whole county, with clay valleys cut between, and our photographed local work shows both being handled.

THE LIMESTONE

Shoreline Country Rock

The hills around the lake run thin soil over layered limestone, and pond sites up high get the honest treatment: prefer the draw, and price any ledge work by the day. The dusk basin photo above shows exactly this ground being worked right.

Lakeside does not mean pond-proof; it means design-first.

THE VALLEYS

Clay Between the Hills

The creek valleys running toward the Brazos arm carry honest clay, and that is where most Whitney ponds live: dig, core, compact, hold, at published list prices. The aerial above shows a fresh basin on this ground taking its first water.

Hill County clay rewards proper compaction with decades of held water.

The Build, Step by Step

Lake country expects real water knowledge. Here is a Whitney pond build, step by step, built to lake-country standards.

1

The call

The first step costs nothing: photos, a rough size, your location. We come back same day with a range from the published list, and the site walk gets scheduled only if that range makes sense to you.

2

The site walk

A Whitney walk happens in sight of serious water, and clients here know what good shoreline looks like. We read the limestone that runs the bluffs, hunt the clay the draws usually carry, and read the watershed feeding the site. The verdict is specific and immediate: where the pond sits, how it seals, how deep the center cuts, and the machine days on the whole job, quoted like we will be neighbors, because around Lake Whitney we effectively are.

3

The quote

We put the whole build on paper in machine days, dig, dam, and spillway, with rock or liner contingencies called out up front where you can see them. The number you sign is the number you pay.

4

Mobilization

Once the quote is signed we get you on the calendar, typically a few weeks out. The machines arrive together, stage near the site, and stay until the job is finished, no disappearing mid-build.

5

Build days

Count on two to five working days of iron time for a typical pond. Every build follows the same discipline: saved topsoil, a real core trench, a dam raised in compacted lifts, and slopes cut so they can be mowed, not just admired.

6

The walkthrough

Last step: a slow lap around the pond together. You check the dam, the spillway cut, the slope finish, and the dressed topsoil against the quote. We load the machines only when you are satisfied.

7

The wait for water

Hill County ponds fill on the same Brazos-bound storms that move the lake, arriving hard a few times a season. A pond sized to its draw banks each one. Grass the dam before the first storm, check the spillway after the big ones, and give the watershed a season. Lake country teaches patience about water levels better than we ever could.

2026 Pond Price List

Published, not hidden behind a form. Prices and build times are based on 6 feet of depth at center with a 4:1 bank.

Pond Size Starting Price at 6 ft depth, 4:1 bank Build Time
1/4 acre from $12,300 2 to 3 days
1/2 acre from $19,200 3 to 4 days
3/4 acre from $23,300 4 to 5 days
1 acre from $27,000 5 to 6 days
1 1/4 acre from $30,400 6 to 7 days
1 1/2 acre from $33,800 7 to 8 days
1 3/4 acre from $36,800 8 to 9 days
2 acre from $39,500 9 to 10 days

Valley clay runs the list. Limestone sites carry a rock variable, flagged honestly. We are twenty minutes from our 177 acre Dileo clearing project at Clifton, so this county is standing routing for our machines, not a special trip.

Size it, tell us what to do with the dirt, then draw the pond right on a photo of your land. Your estimate comes back by email, along with a preview of the finished water.

What You Are Paying For, Line by Line

The quote has two halves: what every build includes, and the site-specific items we flag before work starts.

INCLUDED IN EVERY BUILD

The Whole Pond

One price, one finished pond: siting matched to the water the land actually sheds, staking, saved topsoil, core trench, a dam packed up in lifts, a proper spillway, slopes you can mow, and banks dressed to grass. Machine transport and the walkthrough are never extras.

QUOTED SEPARATELY WHEN NEEDED

The Site Variables

Hammer time when the dig meets the limestone the bluffs are made of, flagged and billed by the day. Clay or bentonite work when a basin runs thin over rock, priced at design. Cedar and mesquite clearing at published day rates, and spoil stays and shapes into the property in nearly every Whitney build.

Private Water in Lake Country

Three photos, one county

The dusk shot, the build in progress, and the aerial with first water are all Whitney country work, and together they cover the arc every local pond runs: rough ground, shaped basin, held water. When we quote Hill County we are pointing at this page, not at promises.

The lake teaches the lesson

Whitney residents watch the Corps raise and drop the lake on flood math, and every drought year the shoreline walks away from the docks. A pond on your own tract answers only to your watershed and your dam: full when you built it right, fishable when the lake ramp is mud, and never subject to somebody else’s water plan.

Twenty minutes from the big proof

Our 177 acre Dileo Solar clearing project ran at Clifton, one county road system away, and our documented Bosque work sits at Morgan and across the valley. Whitney pond quotes ride routing we already run weekly, which keeps mobilization ordinary and scheduling fast.

Private Water in Lake Whitney Country

The pond the lake cannot be

Lake Whitney is magnificent and public; your pond is small and entirely yours. No corps rules, no crowded ramps, no drawdown surprises, just water tuned to your property: stocked your way, fished on your schedule, level managed by your own spillway. Around here a private pond is not competing with the lake, it is completing the property that lives near one.

Bluff country geology, pond scale

The limestone that makes the lake’s bluffs runs under Whitney ground, and ponds here get engineered around it: priced from the builds behind us rather than a promise, flooring basins into the clay the draws carry, keying the dam so water stays where it is put. Built with that respect, a Hill County pond holds like the lake itself, at a scale you can mow around.

Depth reads like lakefront

Whitney summers work open water hard. Eight feet or more at center slows evaporation, keeps a cool layer under the fish, and holds honest levels while shallow ponds around the county turn to warm soup. Deep water is also what makes a private pond feel like real water, the way lake people expect.

Striper country, pond rules

Everyone here fishes, which makes the stocking conversation easy: forage first, minnows and bluegill building the chain, bass a season later. A pond will not grow you a striper run, but stocked in order it grows largemouth that hit like they pay rent, three minutes from the kitchen instead of thirty from the ramp.

Cleared to lake-house standards

Whitney properties are kept properties, and the pond site should match. We clear as the Whitney clearing crew we already are, cedar grubbed clean, oaks protected, topsoil dressed back over every grade, so the finished pond looks like part of the landscaping, not an excavation.

More Than a Hole That Holds Water

Most clients add at least one of these. Planned during the build, they cost less and land better than bolting them on a year later.

FINISH

Seeding & Erosion Control

Seed and matting close every Whitney build, because Hill County storms hit bare dirt like they hold a grudge. Grass established in the first season is what turns fresh dam into permanent shoreline.

WATER QUALITY

Aeration & Fountains

Lake people know what healthy water looks like. A bottom diffuser keeps your pond’s column turning and oxygenated through the heat, and a fountain gives the surface the motion that reads as alive from every window facing it.

ACCESS

Docks

A dock is practically mandatory in lake country. Plan it on the site walk and we shape the shelf and grade while the basin is dry, so your pier sits level over real depth and feels like a miniature of the lake’s best.

THE PAYOFF

Fish Stocking

Stock forage first and bass a season behind, and the pond becomes the honest fishery the lake crowd drives past: private, patterned, and productive, with every fish grown on your own watershed.

★★★★★

Cleared lots of cedars for trails for us on our 14 acres. Cannot wait to have them come back with the machine for rock pulverizing on the rock trails.

Great job, turned a jungle into a park at a fair price, done just in time before the rain. Thanks.

Words You Will Hear on the Site Walk

Dirt crews talk in shorthand. These are the six terms that matter most on a pond build.

Watershed

Every acre of ground that sheds rain toward your pond. It, not the hole, decides how fast you get water.

Full pool

The level at the spillway lip, the most the pond holds day to day. Lake Whitney’s version moves with the Brazos; yours stays where we built it.

Borrow area

Where the dam dirt comes from. On a well designed pond it is the basin itself, so every yard dug does double duty.

Acre-foot

One acre of water a foot deep, about 326,000 gallons. The unit that decides whether a stock pond needs a state permit.

Topsoil strip

Saving the living top layer before the dig and dressing it back over the banks after, so grass takes the first season.

Plastic clay

Clay you can roll into a ribbon in your hand. The soil that seals a pond, and the first thing we look for on the walk.

Whitney Pond Construction FAQs

Is the pond work on this page really from Whitney?

Yes: the dusk basin shot, the in-progress build, and the aerial taking first water are all local ground, labeled as such. We publish real work or nothing.

What does a pond cost in Whitney?

Published list: quarter acre from $12,300 at 6 feet on a 4:1 bank, calculator above for your own numbers. Valley clay runs the list; limestone sites carry a rock variable, flagged first.

Why build a pond when the lake is right there?

Because the lake belongs to the Corps and the drought, and your pond belongs to you. Full pool on your own tract is the version nobody can draw down.

Can you handle the limestone?

It is our home geology across three counties: prefer the draw, seal where thin, hammer only when moving the site loses. The by-the-day rock honesty applies here like everywhere.

How fast can you get to Whitney?

We are twenty minutes from our Clifton project ground and run this routing weekly. Scheduling is ordinary, not a special mobilization.

Cedar clearing too?

The classic Hill County combo: cedar off the draw, pond in it, more runoff and a better view in one mobilization. Our Bosque clearing write ups set the standard.
