The Land Around Rice

Rice sits on I-45 between Corsicana and Ennis, and the highway is doing to this stretch what it already did further north. Ground that was row crop and pasture for a century is being cut into homesites and small acreage, and the two kinds of job happen here in the same week.

On the tracts still being farmed it is the familiar blackland work: fence rows grown through with mesquite and elm, creek bottoms taking the field edge, pasture that wants reclaiming. On the tracts that just changed hands it is opening a building site and a drive and handing a builder ground ready for survey, which is construction site prep. Blackland clay decides the calendar for both: work it saturated and the ruts outlast the job.

Forestry Mulching 13

High Horsepower Dedicated Mulchers

Our high horsepower dedicated mulchers run 300+ HP and chew through heavy cedar and mesquite at a pace no skid steer can match. That is how big tracts get cleared in days instead of weeks. We bring these machines when your material runs bigger than 8 inches in diameter and the property has access for an 11 foot wide machine.

Land Clearing 6

Skid Steer Mulchers for Precision Work

For material up to 8 inches in diameter, our skid steer mulchers fill the gap. Subdivision lots, tree preservation, tight fence lines, and finish work around structures, they get in where the big machines cannot. Low ground pressure protects your topsoil, and they clear selectively around the oaks you want to keep.

What Customers Say About Working With Us

Rated 5 out of 5

Pierce land was a pleasure to deal with and they do a great job. Don't make the mistake of hiring a skid steer to make a mess and then hiring the big boys (Pierce) to come clean it up. My place looks fantastic now!

I'm so glad I found Taylor and Bobby to help me clear our land. We were tired paying to rent wood chippers, tractors, shredders, chain saws, etc, and still not being done with the project. Then came Taylor and Bobby. Not only did they do a better job than we could, they did it fast, efficiently, and saved us TIME and MONEY. They did a BEAUTIFUL job and now our land gives us bragging rights. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

These guys take a lot of pride in what they do. This doesn't even look like the same property. The operator walked the property with me before he started and the outcome was exactly what I'd hoped for. Will definitely recommend to anyone that asks. Great job guys, much appreciated.

Permits in Rice

On rural Navarro County land you own, clearing generally needs no permit and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas. Inside Rice city limits, clearing tied to a build runs through normal permitting.

How Long Does It Take?

Estimates usually happen within a few days of your call. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site, and larger acreage moves at several acres a day with the dedicated mulchers. One local quirk: the blackland clay here gets greasy after rain, so we watch the forecast and schedule around it rather than tearing up your ground. You get a start window with your quote and a heads up before we roll in.

Rice Land Clearing FAQs

Priced by the machine day. A high horsepower mulcher is $4,000 per day plus transport, a skid steer mulcher is $3,000 per day with transport included, and dozer or excavator work is $3,000 per day plus transport. One day minimum on every machine. Most fence row and field edge work around Rice is one or two days.

Yes, and on Navarro County farm ground it is most of what we do. mesquite, elm and hackberry grown through the wire, taken back to a clean line you can build on and see along. Clear before you fence rather than after; a line cut through standing brush costs more and comes out crooked.

Blackland clay is the reason we ask. Working saturated ground tears ruts that outlast the job and does not clear any faster. If your place is soaked we will tell you to wait rather than take a deposit and make a mess of it.

From the crown, yes, if it is only mulched. Mesquite resprouts from below the soil line, so on ground you want back in production the crown has to come out, which is dozer or excavator work rather than a mulching head. We will tell you which your ground needs.

Yes. Old push piles grind faster than standing timber because the material is already down, and it saves you a burn permit and a weather window. Nothing gets hauled off.

On rural Navarro County land you own, generally no, and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas. Inside the city limit, clearing tied to a build goes through normal permitting. Check before you clear inside a limit.

It is mulched in place and left as a layer on the soil, which holds ground through a hard rain and slows what tries to come back. No hauling, no burning, no disposal fees.

It can, depending on what you change the ground to. Clearing brush back to grazeable pasture usually supports the exemption rather than threatening it, but a call to the Navarro County appraisal district before you change land use is worth the ten minutes.
