Woodway is the wooded side of Waco and the work here looks nothing like the farm clearing we do twenty minutes east. Lots run down toward the Bosque with mature oak and elm on them, the trees are most of the reason the property is worth what it is, and almost nobody wants land cleared. They want the understory opened so you can see through it, storm damage taken out, and cedar pulled off the good hardwoods.
That is selective work with a mulching head, and on the slope down to the river there is a second reason for it. Roots are what hold that bank, so mulching and leaving the root mat in place beats grubbing nearly every time. Fences, septic, pools and close neighbours mean the machine gets chosen for maneuvering rather than raw output. Woodway is incorporated with its own tree and development ordinances, so anything tied to a build runs through city permitting. On rural McLennan County land you own, clearing generally needs no permit and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas.
Estimates usually happen within a few days of your call. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site, and larger acreage moves at several acres a day with the dedicated mulchers. One local quirk: the blackland clay here gets greasy after rain, so we watch the forecast and schedule around it rather than tearing up your ground. You get a start window with your quote and a heads up before we roll in.
Priced by the machine day. A high horsepower mulcher is $4,000 per day plus transport, a skid steer mulcher is $3,000 per day with transport included, and dozer or excavator work is $3,000 per day plus transport. One day minimum on every machine. Most fence row and field edge work around Woodway is one or two days.
Yes, and on McLennan County farm ground it is most of what we do. cedar, elm and greenbriar grown through the wire, taken back to a clean line you can build on and see along. Clear before you fence rather than after; a line cut through standing brush costs more and comes out crooked.
Blackland clay is the reason we ask. Working saturated ground tears ruts that outlast the job and does not clear any faster. If your place is soaked we will tell you to wait rather than take a deposit and make a mess of it.
From the crown, yes, if it is only mulched. Mesquite resprouts from below the soil line, so on ground you want back in production the crown has to come out, which is dozer or excavator work rather than a mulching head. We will tell you which your ground needs.
Yes. Old push piles grind faster than standing timber because the material is already down, and it saves you a burn permit and a weather window. Nothing gets hauled off.
On rural McLennan County land you own, generally no, and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas. Inside the city limit, clearing tied to a build goes through normal permitting. Check before you clear inside a limit.
It is mulched in place and left as a layer on the soil, which holds ground through a hard rain and slows what tries to come back. No hauling, no burning, no disposal fees.
It can, depending on what you change the ground to. Clearing brush back to grazeable pasture usually supports the exemption rather than threatening it, but a call to the McLennan County appraisal district before you change land use is worth the ten minutes.
