Why Utilities Clear Right of Way

Right of way clearing keeps vegetation away from energized lines, buried pipe, and the access roads crews need in an outage. For transmission corridors that means a clear floor and managed edge so trees cannot reach the conductors in a storm; for pipelines it means a visible, patrollable corridor; for both it means machines that can work miles of easement at production pace without damaging what the easement crosses.

The stakes are not abstract in Texas. Storm outages, wildfire risk, and inspection requirements all trace back to corridor condition, which is why utilities and their EPC contractors treat re-clearing cycles as maintenance, not landscaping. The LCRA Corridor: 127 Acres, Documented

Our largest published right of way job is a 127 acre LCRA corridor clearing near Elgin, run at fleet pace with dedicated mulchers. On a separate Elgin tract we cleared ten acres under an energized LCRA line where the requirement was absolute: no contact with the live conductors. That constraint set machine position and head height for every pass along the corridor, and it is the kind of rule utility work is made of.

Mulching earns its place on corridors because it leaves nothing to haul: the brush becomes ground cover that holds the easement floor against erosion, and the corridor is patrollable the day the machine leaves. Where stumps must come out for access roads or pad sites, the grubbing crew follows on the same mobilization.

Utility ROW FAQs

How wide does a transmission right of way get cleared?

The easement document sets the width, commonly 50 to 150 feet depending on voltage. We clear to the easement line and manage the edge growth the utility specifies, never beyond it.

Can you clear under energized lines?

Yes, under the constraint that governs everything: no contact with live conductors. Machine position and head height are planned to the line, and the ground under the wire gets worked slower and more deliberately than open corridor.

Mulching or dozing for right of way work?

Mulching for the corridor floor: no piles, no burn windows, immediate access. Dozing and grubbing where access roads, pads, or pole sites need roots out. Most corridor contracts use both, one mobilization.

Do you work for landowners or utilities?

Both. Utilities and EPCs hire us for corridor miles; landowners hire us when an easement crossing their land needs the edges cleaned or their side of the corridor reclaimed.
