Crawford is ranch country and the ground changes as soon as you leave the blackland behind. West of here it climbs toward the Bosque County line, the soil thins, rock comes closer to the surface, and cedar takes over the jobs that mesquite does further east.
That distinction is worth understanding before you spend money, because the two need opposite answers. Cedar does not resprout once it is cut low, so a mulching head finishes it in one pass. Mesquite comes back from the crown, so if you want it gone for good it has to come out at the root, which is grubbing. Most places out here have both, and the honest answer is usually that the two halves of your property need two different machines. Storm damage is the other regular call, and a mulcher grinds a downed tree where it lies.

We bring these machines when your material runs bigger than 8 inches in diameter and the property has access for an 11 foot wide machine.
For material up to 8 inches in diameter, our skid steer mulchers fill the gap. Subdivision lots, tree preservation, tight fence lines, and finish work around structures, they get in where the big machines cannot. Low ground pressure protects your topsoil, and they clear selectively around the oaks you want to keep.

On rural McLennan County land you own, clearing generally needs no permit and agricultural work is exempt from most regulation in Texas. If your place carries an agricultural valuation, call the appraisal district before changing land use.
Estimates usually happen within a few days of your call. Most residential jobs run one to three days on site, and larger acreage moves at several acres a day with the dedicated mulchers. One local quirk: the blackland clay here gets greasy after rain, so we watch the forecast and schedule around it rather than tearing up your ground. You get a start window with your quote and a heads up before we roll in.
Priced by the machine day. A high horsepower mulcher is $4,000 per day plus transport, a skid steer mulcher is $3,000 per day with transport included, and dozer or excavator work is $3,000 per day plus transport. One day minimum on every machine. Most fence row and field edge work around Crawford is one or two days.
Yes, and on McLennan County farm ground it is most of what we do. cedar, mesquite and elm grown through the wire, taken back to a clean line you can build on and see along. Clear before you fence rather than after; a line cut through standing brush costs more and comes out crooked.
Blackland clay is the reason we ask. Working saturated ground tears ruts that outlast the job and does not clear any faster. If your place is soaked we will tell you to wait rather than take a deposit and make a mess of it.
From the crown, yes, if it is only mulched. Mesquite resprouts from below the soil line, so on ground you want back in production the crown has to come out, which is dozer or excavator work rather than a mulching head. We will tell you which your ground needs.
Yes. Old push piles grind faster than standing timber because the material is already down, and it saves you a burn permit and a weather window. Nothing gets hauled off.
